Atheists who ask the wrong question

Most atheists get the God question wrong, because:

Formulating the question of God as an epistemic rather than a hermeneutical or metaphysical one already prejudices the possible answers to the question, since an epistemic question about an object (object in the formal sense) is to posit this God as outside the knowing subject and as having the possibilities of existing or not existing.  A concept is given, clearly defined, and the question is one of knowing whether the term has a referent. But really it is a question of understanding what we mean when we use that term.
