Of what on the left does the end of neoliberalism entail the political obsolescence?

Hypothesis:

At least two things were specific to the neoliberal period that may be identified as roughly 1973-2008, and that may be said now to be definitively over:

1) Its political obsessions, on the left, were overwhelmingly identity-political, basically intersectionalist. This happened when the working class was abandoned and opposition to capitalism evaporated. Now there is opposition to capitalism but without a visible alternative to aim at, except nationalism. Identity politics worked as well as it did under neoliberalism because corporate institutions, including universities, could integrate its demands at little cost as they do not threaten capital. That was true of feminism in all its most visible forms, including MeToo carceral moralism. It was true of every form of cultural nationalism, including the racial ones, except when they linked their appeals to identity to critiques of capital, which only happened on the fringe left.

2) It inherited from the previous, Fordist, era, not only the centrality of the apparatus of imprisonment, but also the corresponding preponderance of psychology as the discourse of social management or policing. Could this now begin to be questioned and fall away? Those discourses are linked to several of American capitalism's most profitable (and powerful) industries. They have nearly succeeded in making everyone a morally indebted dependent client.

The use of prisons has increased but may has been partially displaced by technologies in the management of persons psychologically. What may be called the psychological or therapeutic state was massively repressive and depoliticizing and functioned to render dissent impossible or meaningless. This was furthered by the development of neo-romanticist subcultural subjectivities, particularly among youth, of deep authenticity that encouraged more extreme postures as long as they could be marketed as cultural deviance rather than more contestational political dissent, though it is latent in the former. The therapeutic state may be losing its consensual character as it becomes less important to be normal.
